Food and Resources For The Hungry and Homeless
The Sunday Table
Every Sunday, more than 100 people line up at The Sunday Table to receive free meals and groceries.
I have been volunteering to provide The Sunday Table since 2021. During that time I have been privileged to work with and receive help from Monica M. Nelmes, Paul Taneja, Chris and Jay King, amongst many others.
At The Sunday Table, groceries are provided by Sai Dham Food Bank and meals are provided by many of our local restaurants.
The Bench
Many of you will recognize The Bench, and this man.
Ed Pickersgill has been working to feed those in need at The Bench nearly every day for over 5 years, and ever since I heard about this and met Ed, I’ve been working to support his work, donating food and bringing other resources and awareness to serve his mission and the betterment of our community.
The Children’s Foundation of Guelph
Recently, I have had the joy of serving at “The Children’s Foundation of Guelph” to support kids in school nutrition program.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 1 in 3 children have experienced food insecurity.
Because of this, The Children’s Foundation created the “Food & Friends @ Home Initiative” which is coming to a close in the summer of 2022.
This program supported school nutrition with kids being back physically in classes. I had the privilege of being able to bag food and groceries for hungry children in need in Ward 1.
The Guelph & District Multicultural Festival
In 2022, I served as volunteer stage manager for 2 and half days at The Guelph & District Multicultural Festival. In this position I coordinated more than 60 performances and presentations from different diversified cultures.
Planting Trees in Support of Guelph’s Natural Beauty and Growth
As much as I love working with and creating better systems, I also love working on the ground and getting my hands dirty – literally! I have enjoyed working to help the growth of our natural beauty, including planting trees in Ward 1.
As one of my plans for Ward 1 {link}, I believe it is our obligation to support and nurture a healthier environment for us all.
Covid-19 Support and Relief
During Covid-19, I volunteered as Project Manager to raise funds for six different hospitals in Ontario, raising nearly $65k, our community efforts have raised funds for Guelph Food Bank and Guelph General Hospital, and I connected with and supported small local businesses.
Hope House
I have had the opportunity to work as a volunteer for Hope House, which offers services and programs which challenge the stigmas surrounding poverty and allows our community members to maintain their dignity and choice. I volunteer weekly at Hope House grocery stores to give free groceries to low income families.
